Ondo Workers Reject Proposed Competency Test

Workers in the employment of the Ondo State Government have rejected the state government introduction of competency test for employees of the Board of Internal Revenue (BIR).

The workers under the auspices of Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JNC), pointedly rejected the planned competency test for workers of the state revenue agency, which was scheduled to begin yesterday.

The JNC officers led by the Chairman, Sunday Adeleye and Secretary, Wole Akinlolu, had visited the BIR premises at Alagbaka and directed all workers in the office not to show up for the test scheduled. The rejection was one of the resolutions of the meeting of the leadership of JNC, where issues on the welfare of workers were deliberated upon.

The the position of the JNC, was conveyed through a strongly worded letter which was addressed to the BIR Chairman, Mr Akin Akinterinwa with a declaration “We say no to competency test”.
The Council in the letter described the proposed test as ill-conceived and booby trap for the staff for the management to achieve ulterior motive saying the organised labour has no confidence in the competency test being mastermind by the Chairman of BIR.
